Mystery Solved: Milkweed Edition

2008_0919image0030

You were right - it's Milkweed

I'm guessing this is more likely memory lapse than serendipity.  I did start some of these from seed that GB gave me but I have no recollection of planting this in the front garden.  But, since it's the identical one that I was oohing and ahhing over at her house last year, I'm assuming that's exactly what it is.

Either way, I love it and I'm planting way more of it next year if I can remember to grab the seeds.  Since this one is located in my front garden and I rarely go out to the front garden, I've yet to see any actual butterflies.  Next year I'll plant them in the back so that I can see them from my kitchen window and I'll be ready when the butterflies show up!

My 2008 Favorite Flower: Tall Phlox

I am so in love with Phlox paniculata this year.  They are putting on such a spectacular show right now that I'm having to fight myself not to rush out and buy a million more.  2008_0727image0026 2008_0727image0025

Orange Perfection (pictured above) is absolutely stunning against any green foliage and looks awesome against my homemade window trellis that I painted lime green.

Elizabeth (pictured below) has interesting variegated foliage but she's kinda sickly compared to the others.  I bought this one on clearance last year and although she looked very dead in 2007, she's holding her own so far this year.

Laura (pictured below) is the most lovely shade of purple.  I painted my kitchen almost this exact color years ago tiny house I was renting.  Everybody said it looked like a playhouse.  Laura's foliage is a little darker which is a lovely contrast against the purple flowers.

Flowers From My Garden

I'm no good at flower arranging but I think these are pretty, mostly because they are all blooming in my garden right now.
I always wonder if most people cut flowers from their garden or just let them go until they are finished.
