I have a couple of these, dare I say flowers, growing in my front yard garden. I'd assumed it was some kind of weed except the rock star landscaper guy keeps leaving them.
This morning I noticed one of them has these little red things. I can't really tell if they are berries or flowers about to open.
Can somebody help me ID this thing?

I can't say for certain as I don't grow that, but it looks like a Milkweed to me (one of the Asclepias clan). If the flowers are kind of star shaped when they open, then it probably is. If you see Monarch caterpillars on it, it definitely is. Hope that helps a bit.
ReplyDeleteI'm in total agreement with MMG. Asclepias. Check out my latest blog post and see if you don't agree.
ReplyDeleteHmmm, I'm not sure, but come to think of it, I might also have one growing in the impromptu sunflower patch under the birdfeeder.
ReplyDeleteI'll have to check it out when I get home from work.
Lucky, lucky you! That's milkweed. I can't tell from the photo of the buds if it is the ornamental variety or the wild variety but either way, the butterflies, specifically monarchs will love you!
ReplyDeleteThey are all correct. Milkweed, the larval food source for Monarch butterflies. Lucky indeed.~~Dee
