Ugly Tomato Contest: Big Ugly Brandywine

Here's a short video of my entry for the Ugliest Tomato at the Show Me Your Tomatoes contest hosted by Cafe Ba Ba Reeba. This is a Heirloom Brandywine tomato grown organically from seed by Forest Park Community Garden for their plant sale.

You can also check out Chicago Garden for a sneak peak at the results. I plan to write a full post about tomorrow.

  2. That's one ugly mater Gina! I haven't seen brandywines looking like that - mine are usually a lot smaller and rounder. I guess that's one of the cool things about open-pollinated varieties - you never know how they'll turn out.

My purple Cherokee tomatoes don't have even a hint of purple, but I've seen others that do have a purple cast to them.

We saw some pretty ugly tomatoes at the Baker Creek booth at the ICG show. Not sure what variety they were, but they were ug-ly - almost as ugly as yours!

I saw MBT's post on the contest. . . Congratulations!!! Looking forward to reading more about it.

  3. You should save seeds and sell them as Brainywine. Get it? Because they look like brains.

  4. Or give then an artistic name like "H Tomatoes in Search of a Preparation"

Congratulations on the delicious win for the Purple Cherokees!
