My Skinny Weed Killer

Thanks to the responses to my cry for weed killing help, I've decided to try to make my own weed killer. I'm using Jodi's recipe: 1 cup salt, 1 gallon vinegar, dish soap.

I'll let you know if it works.

The following is an attempt to take a picture of a suspected Zinnia bud. I planted the seeds a few weeks ago and I thought I spotted some action. I have no clue what happened to the picture but I thought it was kinda cool for a screw up.

I have another busy weekend planned. Here's my tentative to do list.

  • Kill weeds
  • De-rust rusty cool table
  • Harvest basil for drying
  • Boring household chores

  1. Been a bit busy and away from blogs for a day or two, Gina, but yes, you can use any kind of vinegar. One friend bought cider vinegar direct from an apple farmer and found it very effective, and cheaper than white or cider from the stores--but I just use normal white vinegar and it works fine for most things (but not goutweed!) I hope it works on your bindweed and whatever the other weed is (I think the others are right about it being purslane but I can't be sure either.) Good luck!

  2. Don't tell anyone the photo was a screw-up, buy a nice frame and mat, put a little tag that says $100, and hang it on the wall of a trendy cafe. Seriously, that's a nice photo.

I'll be interested to hear about the weed-killer. I don't like using nasty sprays either, so I'm glad to hear of that recipe. I think I'll try it too.
