What are my options here?

This is my crappy patio. It really needs to be destroyed and my plan is to replace it with a new fancy one with brick pavers or great flagstone or something but it's just not in the budget this year. So, is there anything at all I can do to make this livable for another year or so? The only thing I can think of is maybe staining the concrete and planting some Creeping Thyme over in the cracks where the ugliest most beat up concrete square is. Come on all you artsy people out there - I need help.

  1. I wouls remove all the growth in the cracks. Then pressure wash away the dirt, stains etc. Let dry; then access whether you need to stain or paint the concrete. Once you have some patio furniture placed and a few potted plants, it may look fine.

  2. I'm not terribly artsy but agree with the other commenter, give it a good cleaning and remove the plants in the cracks. Set up all the furniture first, then decide if you need to do something more. Maybe get one of those outdoor rugs from Target or someplace like that?

  3. What about a wooden frame, fill with river rock or pea gravel right over the concrete, add potted plants, table and chairs, and surround with garden beds. Go for the Tuscan villa look...
