Bright orange flowers look really fantastic against a backdrop of dark foliage. So do light green ones like Zinnia Green Envy and Bells of Ireland. Right now these are planted against my wood fence because I was planning to trellis them (they're climbers) but now that I've seen the color of this first bloom, I'm thinking of moving them to another location where they can ramble around my Weigela Wine and Roses or my Red Husker Penstemon. I think these bright flowers and pale green leaves would really compliment either of them nicely.
What are your favorite plants to pair for their spectacular contrast?

ReplyDeleteI like your plan, but if you transplant them make sure to dig up a root ball bigger than the plant because they don't like their roots messed with.
ReplyDeleteI'm a tad behind with visiting all the other Grow project bloggers, but from what I can tell, all the "nasties" look pretty much the same. I'm not very impressed with the growth habit of mine. I supposed I'm used to a much more vigorous viner, and one that can climb on its own, without me having to keep a bunch of stems tied to something. I'm overworked already! Mine is growing in a pot with a black-eyed Susan vine, and I'm allowing both to trail out and down a pedestal the pot is sitting on. I didn't get around to planting more seeds until today, and they're just in spots in flower beds around the yarden, I'll let them ramble however they want.
