8 things you never needed to know about me

MMD tagged me for the 8 random things meme.

When tagged, you must link to the person who tagged you, then post the rules before your list, and list eight random things about yourself. At the end of the post, you must tag and link to eight other people.
  1. I'm afraid of flying to the point that I need xanax for a 1 hour flight to Omaha. I'd really like to go to Hawaii but I'm scared to :(
  2. I'm a closet Barry Manilow fan. I'm so embarrassed about it that only 3 people know this: my boyfriend, my best friend and another friend/coworker who let it slip that she loves him too.
  3. I'm a big time basketball fan. I am a season ticket holder for the Chicago Bulls - I never miss a game.
  4. I haven't eaten meat in about 8 years but every Thanksgiving we make a turkey for the family and I always tell myself that I'm going to eat some because it smells so great. It never works - once I pull the guts out of the raw turkey's butt, I always change my mind.
  5. Spaghetti is my favorite food. For me, meals are mostly spaghetti versus non-spaghetti.
  6. I have an album. When I was in junior high school, I was one of the 20 sopranos selected out of 200 for the west Tennessee chorus. There were about 100 of us total. I wore a big ugly formal yellow dress to the performance.
  7. My fingernails hold me back. Having short ones creeps me out. I mean short like boy fingernail short. When I was in the 4th grade I took violin lessons but my teacher fired me because I refused to cut my nails. Same with guitar - I can't play because I wont cut my nails. This is a huge disappointment to my father who plays the guitar.
  8. I have a strange psychological thing about people touching my ears. Think ear guy from Something About Mary. Anytime anybody tries to whisper something in my ear it freaks me out - my reflex is to hit the person. When my Mr. W is aggravated with me he threatens me with this "IF YOU DON'T STOP THAT I'LL TOUCH YOUR EARS!"

Carolyn at Sweet Home and Garden Chicago, MBT at Mr Brown Thumb, Rosemarie at Rosemarie's Garden, Alyssa at My Examined Life, Rusty at DragonFly Garden, Soilman at Soilman's Allotment, David at Leave Me Alone, I'm Digging, Wrenna at Old House, New Garden - you are it!

  1. Very interesting... I am a season ticket hold for the Indiana Pacers, and I never miss a game, either. Neither one of our teams is off to a great start... 'nuff said, except at least WE didn't have great expectations down here in Indy.

I don't like to fly either, but if forced to, I will, but I have to convince myself it will be okay.

And thanks for the nice comment on my blog about the article!

  2. This is very, very funny, Gina! I especially chortled over spaghetti vs non-spaghetti. What do you do about breakfast? :-)

  3. carol - woe are us bulls fans this year. I get worried every year that the "experts" start talking about how great we are going to be. that usually means badness at least for the first 10 games. I knew you were a Pacer fan but did not know you were a season ticket holder!

jodi - i love leftover spaghetti for breakfast!

  4. Girl how can you live on spaghetti alone?

    I shop to fly...frequent flyer miles. :)

  5. Barry Manilow, huh ? Better choice than Pink Floyd !

Thanks for revealing hilarious things we never needed to know about you. I find it amazing that you haven't eaten meat in 8 years, I'm just in my first year as a vegetarian and friends and family act as if I've gone over the edge ! Being from the South you know it's usually BBQ, baby.

So, you are a Carb addict, eh ? That's one thing I'm trying to avoid although I love pasta.

Do you still have a good singing voice or did it change ? You could pick up some extra cash at karoke night contests !

Wish I could see that photo of you in the big ugly yellow dress!

That fear of flying is keeping you from a lot of fun traveling. Was there any one thing that caused you to be scared ?

  6. carolyn - yes my family thinks ive gone over the edge as well. you should hear them when we are planning to go out to dinner or something - my neices are the worst "BUT WHAT IS AUNT GINA GONNA EAT???" that's what I hear most often "IF YOU DON'T EAT MEAT WHAT DO YOU EAT??" to which I reply "everything except meat". believe me, I don't look like i've missed a meal! And yes, I'm a carb addict - I always have been. I would always rather have had spaghetti over steak. it's helpful for me that mr wonderful also doesnt eat meat. so we are comfortable at home its the general public that seems to struggle with it. i honestly don't usual even tell people. i've worked with the same people for years and they only recently learned this about me. I just hate to have to explain myself and hear all the "oh i could never do that" from people so I just keep it to myself.

singing voice? if you ask my father he'll tell you yes but i'm pretty sure he's biased.

flying - i do fly but the longest trip for me is out to the west coast and by the time i get there i'm just exhausted what the the drugs and panic attacks. nothing happened to cause this - i've always been afraid of flying. i am amazed that everybody isnt scared to death to fly.

  7. Gina - thanks for participating, I hope it was fun! Another singing gardener - how great is that? (I'm an alto.) Have you considered those fake press-on nails? You'd only need them for your left hand; then you could play guitar and stick the nails back on when you're done. I admire your "no meat" decision. I wish I could do it, but I just can't resist a good steak and meatballs with my spaghetti. I totally understand that whole spaghetti/nonspaghetti thing. Have you tried branching out a bit into fusilli or linguini?

  8. Oh man I saw this too late.

Is this still going on or has everyone been tagged in the garden blogosphere already?
