Mi Casa

On Sunday I went out to the front of the house with plans to drag the garden hose out and map out where the curved beds should be. I just couldn't do it! I spent a good 20 minutes strolling up and down the sidewalk in front of my house, staring at the grass, trying to tell myself that it's not a big deal to just move the hose around until something looks like where a flower bed should go. I don't have a creative bone in my body. Not only that, I'm scared to even try to be creative.

I was paralyzed with fear! I am not confident enough to put a damn water hose down, make a decision, and start digging. So, I snapped a pitcture, came in the house and started drawing on it. I need therapy!
I poured my heart out about this to GB today. She said what she always says, "gina, it's only grass! It will grow back!" After I whined enough she finally agreed to come help me decide where the beds could go. I just love that girl!

In the meantime, I was trying to figure out what the house would look like with white trim and black porch railing. I am also considering shutters on the left and right windows and a large planter box under the big window in the center. What do you think that would look like?

  1. It would look like a house where someone indecisive lives!

    Kidding.

I like the planter box and look forward to that story soon I hope!

  2. Gina, there is a free software that will let you upload that pic of your house and design flower beds and even add plants to see what it should look like. I have it and play with it lots.

    http://www.showoff.com/

Download it there! It's fun, I promise.

  3. Forgot to say, don't be afraid of doing it wrong. Everyone does something wrong. Gardening is an ongoing process, and sometimes doing it wrong leads to doing something very, very right in the end.

  4. I'm glad you have a friend to help you with the first steps. Eventually, you'll feel more confident and be able to make those decisions easier.

I really like your ideas for sprucing up the front of your house. It would give it some much needed character. Love the shutters and windowbox - they are winners. Possibly they could be a matching color??? Keep us posted on your new gardening and house venture.

  5. The changes you are considering to the house look good. Just dive in there & make some garden. If you have to change it later, so what? Gardeners often change the shape & size of a bed, often as a result of too many impulse plant buys.

  6. I think the shutters and window box would make your house look more cottage-y, especially painted white along with the trim.
As for your new beds, maybe you can think of it this way.....grass is soooo ordinary and boring! But a lovely border of flowers and ornamentals can be a unique expression of YOU! It's like a palette that you can change seasonally. Go for it, Girl!

  7. Hehehe,

I'm with you in the on the indecisive nature of where to plant something. Like wrenna mentioned there is a lot of free software that helps you with the design.

But painting on it with a program like you did the white trim is also helpful.

  8. What's the worst that could happen? You would have to garden more! Not to worry, just have fun!

  9. I'm with you that I would be nervous (I was lucky that my gardens were already here). But now that I've gardened this garden, I say ... GO FOR IT. It is only grass. You can never really mess anything up if you just try with your heart's desire.
