Flowers From My Garden

I'm no good at flower arranging but I think these are pretty, mostly because they are all blooming in my garden right now.
I always wonder if most people cut flowers from their garden or just let them go until they are finished.

  1. Very pretty! I let most of mine go to seed without cutting, but only because most of my blooming flowers are in the wildflower patch. I will cut a zinnia or two for a bud vase, but we spend more time outside than in this time of year and I hate watching flowers die in a vase.

  2. Beautiful zinnas and the others as well! So bright and cheery!

Since I work long hours, I'll pick flowers for vases in my office so I can enjoy them there. I don't see much of my gardens except on the weekends so I've got cut flowers in my house too. But I literally suck at flower arranging and just kind of stick them in where ever. It's nice to see them no matter what way they are leaning.

About your SAC - you could let it climb on your fence (put some strong cord or wire to guide it at first) and use the lovely trellis for an art piece. I've seen how some people put mirrors in them and it looks like a door leading out. Or just try the SAC for a couple of years - nothing is permanent with gardening!

  3. Since I am able to spend a lot of time in my garden, and also see it from the house, I don't cut many flowers. But when I deadhead or prune things back I always end up with some good flowers to put in a vase. However, I do love making a nice mixed bouquet for a friend on occasion. On the other hand, my daughter is a cutter! She cuts every flower she sees to bring inside. Maybe it's a personality thing?

  4. I don't cut flowers unless someone is sick in the house and can't get outside. Then I will keep fresh flowers near them. Otherwise, no cutting. I'm not even close to being Martha Stewart, and putting flowers in vases on dusty tabletops just seems silly to me! And if I wasn't outside gardening the table wouldn't be dusty, so it's a viscious circle!

  5. I don't usually cut flowers, mainly because when I do I end up with bugs crawling out of the blooms, and all over my house. So, I just enjoy them outside.

  6. By the time I get my gardening done I'm too tired to go out and cut flowers, but your boquets are so lovely that it has inspired me.
Also, cut flowers don't seem to last as long as the ones that are left uncut.

I love your new trellis. That was a great idea! It will look beautiful when it has a clematis or other fine growing on it.

  8. thanks, everybody! seems like more people leave their flowers outside. To be honest, that's what I prefer as well. They sure seem to live longer outside than inside.

And thanks for the trellis encouragement. I think I'll just leave the SAC for a bit (at least until next year) and think about where I can move it.

  9. I spend more time out in the garden than I do inside, so I leave most of them in the garden. Now and then I'll cut some though and bring them in. I think maybe I'll do that with some zinnias tomorrow.
